Buckland Road, Stafford

The Buckland Road project involved the proposed extension of an existing dropped kerb at a residential property located on a 90-degree bend. The road geometry created constrained visibility conditions, meaning the access could not be considered solely as a frontage alteration. A visibility assessment was required to demonstrate that vehicles leaving the property would have appropriate sightlines to approaching traffic and that pedestrians and other road users would remain suitably protected.

Civia was appointed to prepare the dropped kerb design and supporting visibility assessment for the resident. We surveyed the relevant section of Buckland Road, reviewed sightlines from the proposed access and considered stopping sight distance requirements in relation to the road environment. The resulting plan demonstrated the extent of the proposed dropped kerb and provided the technical evidence needed to support approval from the local highway authority, allowing the access to be improved while maintaining safe egress from the property.
