The Former Wheel Inn site in Walsall Wood required swept path analysis to demonstrate that articulated delivery vehicles could safely access and manoeuvre within the proposed development. The site was influenced by surrounding highway constraints and the need to limit disruption between adjacent roads, making vehicle routing and turning space key considerations. The analysis needed to identify whether the proposed layout could accommodate the required servicing movements without unacceptable conflict.
Civia was engaged to assess the site constraints, agree the design vehicle requirements and model the anticipated vehicle movements. Using specialist swept path software, we tested preferred entry and exit manoeuvres for articulated vehicles and reviewed the turning radii, conflict points and space requirements generated by those movements. The resulting plans demonstrated the likely vehicle routes and provided layout commentary to help optimise the architect’s proposals.
